Healthy Eating and Nutrition Advice for Men

control plates

A healthy diet is more than just fuel for the body; it not only helps you fight disease, but keeps you looking young and active. Typically, men love their meats and fatty foods and this often affects their health in a big way. Healthy eating for men involves eating the right foods and maintaining the ideal weight with the help of exercise. We give below a few tips for men to achieve this goal.

Eating the Right Foods:

A healthy diet plan for men should include foods from all the food groups in the right proportion. So, your daily intake must comprise of two cups of fruits, two and half cups of vegetables and a minimum of five ounces of whole grains. Whole grains are a rich source of fiber, minerals and vitamins essential for heart health and maintaining the ideal body weight. Vegetables like tomato contain lycopene which is good for your prostrate. Fish, fruits and milk also give the required dose of potassium and calcium that your body needs.

Healthy Eating for Men: Go beyond meats

Men favor meats more than any other food simply because it gives the proteins to aid muscle buildup. Lean beef or lean pork also gives the required quantity of zinc required for the body. But, what is often ignored is the fact that the diet should also be balanced by eating vegetables and whole grains. And meat need not be the only source of protein - you can get it from beans too. Soy beans not only provide protein, but are rich in isoflavones that may reduce the risk of prostrate cancer.

Healthy Eating and Nutrition For Teen Weight Loss

loss plans

Healthy eating and nutrition go hand in hand when talking about teen weight loss. Some foods are nutritious, meaning that they're good for you, while others contain a lot of empty calories. When looking at weight loss plans for teens, the key to successful dieting is to eat mostly foods that have good nutrition.

But how do you know if a certain food is nutritious? Well, a sure way is to check the labels on food. Almost all foods have labels. Even foods without labels, like fresh fruit and vegetables as well as certain meats, fish, or poultry will have information posted close to where they are located in the store. These labels will show you exactly what's in the food, as well as information about calories, fat content, carbohydrates, and more.

By checking labels you can see if the food contains vitamins and minerals and if so, how many and in what amount. Now this might seem like a lot of effort. But once you check a label a few times you'll know whether a food is healthy and nutritious, or just filled with fat and empty calories. How can you include healthy food in weight loss plans for teens unless you know whether a food is nutritious or not?

weight loss

You can even go one step farther and compare two similar products to see which one is healthier and more nutritious. For teen weight loss to happen you will need to choose carefully. How many carbohydrates are in those two different kinds of cereal? What about the fat content on those pre-packaged frozen pizzas?

When choosing weight loss plans for teens, be sure to include them in the process. By learning to read labels they will gain an awareness of how healthy eating and nutrition can help them meet their weight loss goals. More helpful info can be found through my resource below.

Healthy Eating And Living Habits Increase Longevity

HealthyPeople 2010

New numbers just in on healthy living and eating bring some welcome news... Americans are living 12 months longer than just 10 years ago. American life expectancy went from 76.8 to 77.8 years according to new numbers.

So why are we living longer?

Fewer people are dying from cancers like breast, colon and prostate, heart disease and conditions like HIV. This is great news out of the HealthyPeople 2010 report. The program, which started back in 1980, sets challenging, measurable goals to boost the health of everyone. The 2010 incarnation aimed to increase our life span, how well we live as well as removing the disparities in health care.

The report is based on 733 health indicators, each that had a very ambitious quantifiable target. Data was collected during the 1990s and early 2000s, and then compared to recent information - 23% of the targets set back in November 2000 for HealthyPeople 2010 were met, 48% showed improvement.

That's leaves just 24% of the indicators moving in the wrong direction - away from the goal. Diabetes and other problems associated with obesity still clearly need to be addressed. Solving the obesity issue will help people make strides in a huge number of health problems.

While HealthyPeople 2010 didn't make impressive gains in lowering rates of obesity, diabetes, lack of exercise and disparities in health care, experts do find some good news in the latest numbers.

Prevention was another bright spot of the findings; the numbers of adults over 50 who'd been screened for colon cancer went from just 35% in 1998 to 55% in 2008 - beating the goal that had been set. Full immunizations for children aged 19 to 35 months old went from 73% in 1998 to 78% in 2008 - close to the target of 80%.

Health Care - A Populist Solution

Health Care

It should be obvious by now that the U.S. health care system is not going to be happily corrected from the top down. If we truly had a free-market competitive system with many insurance companies vying for the public's business, that should bring prices of their service down, right?

How can our President be an honest broker in a negotiation with the fabulously wealthy health insurance corporations, the pharmaceutical industry, and others who were major contributors to his election? It simply is not going to happen. These folks have spent a lot of money and time to get their corporations into a position where they have got the most profitable game in town, and -- as we have seen with the heavy Wall Street influence on this administration -- they are not going to be forced to give it all up, just to make the American people happy.

An article recently appeared in the newspaper by T.R. Reid, which gives a rundown of the administrative costs of various health insurance plans around the world, with ours included. The U.S. topped them all at 20% being spent on paperwork, reviewing claims, and marketing. The European countries and Canada ran about 4-6% administrative costs. Taiwan came in the lowest at 1.5%! It shouldn't require private detective sleuthing around the corridors of power in Washington to help us figure out that Americans are under the thumb of an uncompetitive and -- I may as well say it -- corrupt system.

We have a system where the people with the most to gain, "gain access" to our political leaders with the help of well-connected lobbyists to get their views heard. Then, when election time rolls around, mega-contributions flow into the appropriate party's account in return for favorable legislation that allows the corporations to maintain their strangle-hold on our shrinking American economy. It's all a highly-ritualized dance here, but in any Third-World country the same general process is called corruption and influence-buying. The results are the same, whatever we call it.

Healthy Eating and Lifestyle Habits That Keep You Young

Healthy eating

According to most health and nutrition experts, your body is only as good as the stuff you give it. If you keep eating junk food, then you literally become junk too. If you eat foods high in cholesterol, fat and other harmful elements, you get exposed to more diseases and infections, and you age earlier and get fat as well. Here are a number of healthy eating and lifestyle habits to follow, to ensure that you stay fit and look young longer.

Eat Three Full Meals Each Day

The key to healthy eating is by having a balanced diet, and by eating three full meals a day, along with 2 to 3 low-fat snacks in between. This means that you eat a little bit every three hours, instead of skipping meals during daytime, and binging during dinner time. In healthy eating, good balance is key, which means that you must have a sampling of all the major food groups. Therefore, eat balanced amounts of protein, fiber, unsaturated fat, vegetables and fruits.

Take Vitamins And Supplements

By taking vitamins and supplements each day, you actually help keep the doctor away. Supplements are great because they help the body break down the essential nutrients and minerals more efficiently, as well as aid in the digestion and assimilation of food, and provide other essential nutrients too.

Cut Down On Processed Foods

Healthy eating

Most of the processed foods sold in grocery stores today often have ingredients that are detrimental to our health. Many processed foods come loaded with artificial flavorings and preservatives. Try cutting down on your consumption of processed foods, and instead hike your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables. When going to the grocery, always make it a habit to read the labels. You'll be surprised just how much trans-fat, sodium or sugar is in the favorite food item you're buying.

Health and Clutter - Are They Related?

first thing

The answer is Absolutely! You know how it feels when you look at the room and see the clutter day after day after day. STRESS!!! It is a known fact that Clutter leads to stress which leads to Health issues and concerns. Therefore, it is relatively safe to say that Clutter greatly affects your health. Stress is directly related to heart attacks, high blood pressure, muscle disorders and headaches just to name a few medical concerns. We'd like to share just a few tips that you can use on a daily basis to help begin the process of reducing your clutter and stress to improve your health.

First - Our steadfast home rule is that if something can be completed with just a few minutes (2-3) then DO IT NOW! An example is putting the dishes into the dishwasher or wiping off the counter, immediately taking out the trash when it is full, putting items back into the refrigerator when you are done with them, . Take just a few minutes to do it while you are right there at that time and in that moment. You WON'T regret it.

Second - Don't use the floor as the drop point for anything!! You can avoid an extra step by putting everything in its place Instead of the floor - that is what you bought those dressers for, right? Your hips will eventually get tired of bending over and picking it up! Save a step...just put it away immediately.

first thing

Third - Do a clean sweep of your living space prior to going to bed. Make sure that the sink is clean and empty, dishes are put away, clothes are put away and anything else that you will immediately have to look at first thing in the morning that will cause you stress. It is very relaxing and begins your day the "right way" when you don't have to look at "yesterday's" mess first thing in the morning.

Healthy Eating and Healthy Diet

food pyramid

Most people don't realize that a diet is an integrated program consists of healthy eating, healthy lifestyle, and healthy activities. People are consuming diet pills or using extreme diet measures to achieve a certain body shape or weight without knowing that ways they are using are unsafe and may be hazardous to their health. On the other hand, people who know exactly how complex a diet is can achieve the same target easier and maintain their shape once the target is achieved. If you went on several diets only to find yourself going back to your old shape after reaching your target, maybe it is time for you to consider healthy eating and healthy diet.

First, start with applying a diet program that is completely healthy and safe. The food pyramid is a great place to start if you are seeking information about healthy eating and how you can meet the nutrition requirements. The information you will be getting may surprise you; going on a diet doesn't mean you need to completely avoid eating steaks or creamy pastas. Once you constructed a good eating plan using the help of the food pyramid to see what you need to consume, find out if you need supplements to help supply vitamins and minerals by counting the program's nutrition.

healthy eating

Don't forget that you still need to live a healthy lifestyle. Find aspects of your life that you think are not healthy and replace it with activities that can bring more benefits to your overall body health. If you are a smoker or if you drink too much alcohol, you may want to change such activities with something more beneficial. Smoking is hardly acceptable, while a certain amount of alcohol is actually good for your health as long as you don't drink too much.

Headaches

secondary headaches

Many people experience headaches from time to time. But there are people who experience them more often, and the pain is more excruciating than what most people feel.

A headache is a condition of mild to severe pain in the head. Sometimes the pain seems to come from the upper back or at the neck. Most headaches are due to tension, migraine or a combination of the two.

There are three types of headaches: primary headaches, secondary headaches, and neuralgias. Pimary headaches include migraine, tension,, cluster and other trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias. Meanwhile, under secondary headaches that are attributed to the following included head and/or neck trauma, cranial or cervical vascular disorder, non-vascular intracranial disorder, infection, disorder of cranium, neck, eyes, ears, nose, sinuses, teeth, mouth or other facial or cranial structure, and psychiatric disorders. The last type includes cranial neuralgias, central and primary facial pain and other headaches.

There are several treatment options for these headaches. The first is abortive treatment, which is used to reduce headaches once they start. This includes medications like ergotamine, triptans and the newest class of abortives. The second is prophylactic treatment that is meant only to prevent headaches from occurring. This includes calcium channel blockers, serotonin antagonists and beta-blockers. Aside from these two, other headache treatments include over-the-counter pain medications, prescription medications and lifestyle changes.

Healthy Eating and Fat Loss

blood sugar levels

Eating healthy for weight loss can be a slick slope for some people. Actually it can be downright tricky, if you are not careful. Diets only offer a temporary fix to a long-term problem. When it comes to weight loss, adopting healthier choices will make your weight loss goals more obtainable and help you keep that weight off.

Fruits and vegetables are some of the healthiest, safest ways to get the disease fighting nutrients, but are naturally low calorie foods that can curb hunger and can act like an appetite suppressant. Just ten servings a day will give you the nutrients and vitamins you need for a healthy body.

Eating the right type of fats will help you too. You fat intake should be around 30 per cent or below, but eating the right types of fats can benefit your body in more ways than one. Mono and polysaturated fats can reduce cholesterol; lower the risks for heart disease and cancer. Lean protein within your diet is a natural fat burner as it helps to regulate your blood sugar level and keeps you feeling satisfied longer.

High fiber foods can leave you feeling full for a longer period of time, regulate blood sugar levels in the body and maintains the regular function of your intestines. Most individuals should consume thirty grams of fiber a day, which can be achieved by incorporating ten servings of fruits and vegetables a day.

blood sugar

Eliminating carbonated beverages from your diet can eliminate a great deal of empty calories from your diet. Sodas house several grams of sugar, which can wreak havoc on your blood sugar levels. An increase in blood sugar levels can cause you to feel hungry when you are not and excess sugar gets stored in the body as fat. Even diet sodas can cause weight gain! If you part with your sugary sweet beverage, do so! You'll thank yourself later for not consuming those empty calories.

Heal Yourself With Natural Remedies That Outshine Prescription Drugs

save life

Do you believe that people have the ability to heal themselves? It's true for me. For the past 25 years I have had no medical diagnosis, prescription drugs or medical therapy. I went against the grain and became a natural health doctor. I'm different than a medical doctor; I cannot prescribe prescription drugs or perform life saving techniques. However, I did find other avenues of therapy that maintained my health to avert the crisis that demands an MD. For all of those years I did not let any doctor or machine probe my body for disease. I found a stranger in modern society called nature. When I have symptoms there is help in nature. My help comes from:

o Homeopathy

o Naturopathy

o Light, Sound, Subtle Energies

o Food Choices

o Pure Water

o Mental Awareness

health care

o Observation of Self

When I made the decision to cancel my medical insurance policy my friends and family thought I was crazy. What if some disease like cancer, heart disease, a bad flu, mobility problems, or worse yet I was in an accident? What would I do then? How could I pay? At first my idea was to simply stay healthy until I was covered by Medicare insurance at 65. Then the government would pay.

I spent my saved insurance premiums to pay for alternative health care education, and now with that under my belt I would select death over letting someone save my life with drugs or surgery. It is now my conviction that modern medical medicine does not cure and in fact harms.

I am considered a quack in the eyes of medical people trained to apply chemical and surgical solutions for health issues. My attitude is contrary to the mindset that rules modern society who expect other people to pay for their health care, but that is another story. In my opinion the saving of life does not make sense if the quality of life is lost. I love old people because I am one. Please don't save my life. Let nature make the decision.

Health and Beauty Topics

skin tone

Oily skin care

Oily skin is the result of over active sebaceous glands. A substance called sebum is secreted by these glands, normally it is a healthy natural lubricant for the skin but when it is secreted in excess it leads to oily skin. It makes the skin becomes shiny, thick and dull. Oily skin has coarse pores, pimples and other face blemishes. Note that oily skin is not necessarily bad as this skin is less prone to wrinkling and other aging signs and the oil helps to keep needed moisture locked in the outermost layer of the skin. Oily skin can also be caused by other things such as pregnancy, birth control pills, high or imbalanced hormone levels and changes, diets, make-up we use, and terribly hot weather and so on. Oily skin is common in teenagers because of hormonal shifts of adolescence but it can also occur at any age however oily skin has a great advantage of aging slowly than other skin types. Oily skin can be cared for in so many ways: get a good face cleanser or soap not harsh or heavy ones, use lightly medicated soaps, and don't use cleansers that contain alcohol or artificial additives, also try antibacterial cleaning lotions and always apply a natural oil free moisturizer to keep skin soft. The oily skin also needs special cleansing day and night with plenty of warm water and mild soap to prevent clogged pores, harsh products strips the skin from oils and promotes dryness and this can cause skin to start shrinking or wrinkling. Always make sure you moisturize skin after cleansing with oil free moisturizers to maintain a supple and shine free complexion.

Healthy Eating and Living for Kids and Teenagers

your kids

Kids and teenagers have very different lifestyle and dietary needs compared to adults. If you're an adult and have kids of your own, I am sure you would have experienced your kid's seemingly endless amounts of energy and unhealthy desire for fast foods and sweets. If you yourself are a kid or a teenager, I am sure you are tired of your parent's nagging and complaints of "stop eating McDonalds!", "eat your veggies!", "have some fruit", "chips again?!" and various other eating objections.

The truth is; if kids or teenagers don't eat well, they will not develop properly, they will be more likely to be overweight, they will be more susceptible to various illnesses, cardiovascular diseases and acne, and they are more likely to have erratic moods, experience depression and basically, experience a lower level of enjoyment of life.

Now, the million dollar question is; "If I am a parent, how am I going to get my kids to eat healthily, or, if I'm a teenager or a kid, how do I start eating healthily?".

For parents: The first important advice I can give you is: Kids imitate people they feel are good role models. Hence, trying to get your kids to eat healthily has to start from yourself. Once you are having a healthy diet and enjoying a healthy lifestyle, your kids will naturally start to develop healthy eating and living habits themselves. I have further listed below other advice and tips that I recommend to help promote healthy eating and living to your kids:

Eat together: When the entire family is sitting at the table eating breakfast or dinner, your children will observe what you have cooked or eating. Furthermore, meal times are the best way of maintaining and developing closer relationships with your kids as families naturally tend to have conversations over meals. Besides the health benefits of a nutritious balanced meal, studies have shown that kids who have stable family relationships have higher self-esteem and tend to do better in school.
